It’s an exciting time for Capilano University as the school is opening a new satellite location at The Shipyards in North Vancouver.
The new Lower Lonsdale site will be a permanent home for Continuing Studies and Executive Education administration and many Continuing Studies classes will be offered on site. CapU Lonsdale will also offer select courses in local government, paralegal and tourism studies, with possible additional offerings in the future.
The new location is at the centre of the rapidly evolving Shipyards community where the energy and activity make it an ideal hub for learning and collaboration.
“We have a term that we’re beginning to use: it’s called ‘unclassing the classroom’,” CapU president Paul Dangerfield told the Georgia Straight in a recent interview about the opening. “It’s this ability for us to be in communities and create real-world experiences for our students.”
CapU Lonsdale is an extension of Capilano University’s main campus and offers increased capacity for programs, community outreach opportunities and flexible day, evening and weekend programming. It is expected to open for classes in mid-October, and will be able to accommodate up to 400 students.
The new location is steps away from cafés, restaurants, craft beer tasting rooms, stores, fitness studios, the Polygon Gallery and community gathering spaces at and around the foot of Lonsdale Avenue. Plus, it is one block away from Lonsdale Quay, a public transit hub with SeaBus and transit service to downtown Vancouver and points across the North Shore.
With nearly 100 programs and more than 10,000 students, Capilano University is a vibrant, teaching-focused university offering hands-on programs that emphasize the competencies and real-world experiences needed for career success.
