Seminar Schedule

The goal of the Seminar Series is to create awareness about career opportunities in a variety of industry sectors. This year there are two seminar areas: one focused around Trades & Technology and the other geared towards Career Options. Seminar presentations are 30 minutes in duration. No registration is necessary for the Seminars. Seating is first come, first serve!

The Government of Canada has contributed funding to this initiative.

Architectural Sheet Metal workers are creative, artistic, practical craftspeople who not only work with their hands, but with their hearts. They are responsible for creating some of the world’s most stunning interior and exterior aspects of architecture. They work with state-of-the-art computer hardware, software, and equipment. They have the skills to prepare, repair and fabricate components for; metal roofs, metal walls and other exterior wall products. This trade includes three 6-week periods of technical training at well-resourced training centers and 4,800 hours of work-based training. Oil and gas supply and demand are linked together in Canada by 700,000 kilometres of pipelines - long enough to circle the earth 17 times at the equator! British Columbia is resource rich, competitive and generates significant economic wealth from our oil and gas activity. The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources' Oil and Gas Division is leading the way towards stimulating investment in our Province's abundant oil and gas resources. The challenge ahead is to ensure there are enough employees to fill all of the positions needed in the industry.

3D modeling workflow is a hotly debated subject. The rise of video games as a super power in the world of CG has given a huge boost to the technology and the way we approach 3D modeling.
 
This seminar will describe a highly efficient, state of the art workflow for advanced modeling for Video Games, Television, and Feature film characters. An artist will explore efficient base meshes in XSI, the transition into Mudbox and ZBrush, and the use of “Normal Maps” and “Displacement Maps” to achieve dazzling results from low poly models. These techniques have become the standard in all three industries.

Why do RV Service Technicians enjoy what they do?  Because they work on People’s dreams!  RV Service Technicians help RV owners accomplish their lifelong dreams and goals of traveling the country.

The biggest challenge a RV Service Technician faces is the ability to work on various systems simultaneously.  The work involved is best described as "Jack of all trades and master of ALL".  The RV Service Technician will learn and use more than 12 trades.  They work on electrical systems, propane systems, plumbing systems, cabinetry and counter tops, flooring, exterior construction, hydraulics, appliances and more.

The session also provides the opportunity to get more information on the job opportunities that will develop from our skilled trades and will provide an opportunity for discussion, questions and sharing of information.
